Doctoral Colloquia IAFA Doctoral Colloquia/Workshop 2012 In conjunction with the conference a Doctoral Colloquium will be held at National University of Ireland, Galway, on 23rd May, 2012. This event will provide students, at all stages of doctoral research, with an opportunity to present their work and receive feedback from academics in their field. An application form for the Doctoral Colloquium is available on the IAFA website and must be submitted no later than 28th February, 2012. Note that students attending the Doctoral Colloquium can register for the Conference at a reduced fee of €75/£65. The Doctoral Research Funding Competition invites entrants to apply via a specific application form, available on the IAFA website. This competition is open to all registered IAFA members who are undertaking research towards a Masters or Doctoral qualification. The research must contribute to the aims of the IAFA. A prize fund of up to €5,000 is available in 2012. Application forms must be submitted for the competition no later than 28th February, 2012. Successful applicants must present their research findings at the following year’s IAFA Doctoral Colloquium. The decision of the judges is final. The application forms for the masters/doctoral research funding competition and the 2012 Doctoral Colloquium are available on the 'annual conference' page of the website. International Events Doctoral Colloquia are organised by a number of accounting and finance academic associations. These include programs organised by the American Accounting Association (AAA), British Accounting Association (BAA), European Accounting Association (EAA) and the European Finance Association (EFA). American Accounting Association (AAA): We are delighted to announce that the AAA has confirmed that it will offer a place at the 2012 AAA Doctoral Consortium to a person nominated by the IAFA. Thus we are now seeking applications from IAFA members who are studying for a PhD (full-time or part-time – see conditions below) and who would like to receive the IAFA nomination. Eligibility*: Applicants must be: 1. Registered as a full-time PhD student at an Irish higher education institution or be a full-time staff member at an Irish higher education institution and be registered as a part-time PhD student (not necessarily at an Irish institution. 2. Registered as a PhD student for a minimum of one year at the date of application and pursuing his/her PhD studies on a topic that clearly falls within the domain of accounting or finance 3. Recommended for consideration to be the IAFA nominee by his/her supervisor 4. A member of the IAFA *Please note that at the point of launching this call, the AAA have not yet formally circulated the conditions of eligibility specific to the IAFA nominee for the 2012 Doctoral Consortium. If additional conditions are set by AAA, this may make an applicant ineligible or it may require the submission of supplementary information by the applicant. If you wish to apply to be considered as the IAFA nominee at the AAA Doctoral Consortium 2012, please send the following by email to Steve O’Callaghan (steve.ocallaghan@ucc.ie) by 5pm on Thursday, 22nd December 2011: 1. A letter of application outlining how you meet the conditions of eligibility 2. A title page giving your name, your contact details, the title of your PhD study, your institution of registration, the name of your supervisor and your institution of employment (if relevant) 3. A 1,500 word report of your PhD study which should address the following: - the background to your study - your research objectives - an outline of your research method - a summary of your progress to date and your research plan for the upcoming year - an outline of how receiving the IAFA nomination to attend the AAA Doctoral consortium would be of benefit to your PhD studies AND how it will contribute to the development of the IAFA in the years ahead 4. An email of support from your PhD supervisor, which should also confirm your period of registration. NB: To facilitate a blind review process of applications, it is imperative that no personal details or information should be provided in the report which would identify you. All applications will be subject to a blind review by an independent panel of experienced IAFA members appointed by the IAFA Council. All applicants will be notified when a decision regarding the recipient of the IAFA nomination is made.
