The IAFA Scholar

Each year, as part of the organisation of the Annual Conference, the Irish Accounting and Finance Association (IAFA) invites submission of papers to be considered for the IAFA Scholar Bursary. Papers are welcome from any area of accounting and finance for consideration for this award.

If there is a successful candidate in a year, they will be awarded a monetary prize. Additionally, he/she will be known as the IAFA Scholar' of the year in question and will present the successful paper at the IAFA Annual Conference

This prize aims to promote and recognise high standards of academic achievement for emerging scholars within the Irish academic community, thus candidates at the early stages of their research careers are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility:

Applicants must fulfil one of the two following criteria:

They must be a member of staff at an Irish third level institution.
or
They must be registered as a research student at an Irish third level institution.

In addition, applicants must not have previously published more than one paper (sole or joint-authorship) in a refereed journal.

Papers submitted for this award should be primarily the work of the applicant and MUST be single authored. However, the adjudication committee acknowledges that guidance may have been given by a supervisor. Recognition may be given to a supervisor and his/her affiliated institution on the paper's cover page. Applicants for the award are asked to prepare their paper in line with guidance notes for contributors in the Irish Accounting Review. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of the contest, in writing.

Submission procedure:

Submissions must be accompanied by a brief covering letter stating how the applicant fulfils the eligibility criteria. Papers should be submitted in triplicate to the conference organiser by the closing date for paper submissions, clearly identified as 'IAFA Scholar Submission'.

As outlined on the Conference page of the IAFA website, the University of Ulster will host the 2010 Annual Conference (May 2010). The closing date for paper submissions is 26th February 2010.
